More than two weeks after the tragic deaths of esteemed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues are still paying respects to the couple.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Posting on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, explained he just recently felt prepared to share openly about his personal sorrow.
"Sufficient time has elapsed that I can now express my sorrow into words," wrote Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner created an instant bond. "As we began sharing more moments together I knew this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted behind-the-scenes footage from the production, remarking that he doesn't recollect "a single day without joy".
"The movie is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Principles that Rob valued immensely. Which is among the many reasons he was the best person to direct it," Elwes continued.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, stating: "To say that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I remember you." He ended with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Friend and Collaborator
In a different essay, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved being with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the main character.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked beautifully with the cast, and he comprehended the human predicament of his character," Scorsese noted.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Restricted
In a new development, a Los Angeles superior court judge agreed to block the release of the Reiners' autopsy reports, at the request from the local authorities.
A legal directive placed a restriction on the files to prohibit the public release of "any investigative information, evidence and photographs" associated with the probe.
The coroner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the result of foul play, with a public database listing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Aftermath and Reactions
Following the killings, public personalities shared different reactions.
Ex-President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, making divisive remarks that were widely condemned by many commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his voice to the those speaking out last week. Conversing on his podcast, Rogan characterized the remarks as "shocking" and implied they demonstrated a troubling absence of compassion.
Rogan finished by proposing that an adviser ought to have intervened when the impulse to weigh in on the tragedy was made.
