Brian Eno Encourages Public Help to Send Together for Palestine Track to UK Festive Top Spot.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The effort aims to send support to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.
An Opportunity for Unity and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an surprise number one.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a unique phenomenon.”
Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“The song holds a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a dignified life that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The single was laid down after a solidarity show held in September. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.
The diverse array of artists contributing to Lullaby features a range of well-known figures from the scene. All participated in the September show, which managed to collect a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Production and Release
Lullaby was crafted by a group of producers and composers. The track features a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the initiative have emphasized that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These resources will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a spokesperson said. “We’ll go for whatever we can get. Naturally, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The situation in the area was described as its widespread damage, with a overwhelming percentage of buildings described as levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a couple of million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think what does make a difference is first of all raising awareness for this issue and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
